Car marks and scratch repair

These are the easiest scratches to remove as it has only impacted the surface and precise coat level of the car’s paint. Other marks, such as paint and rubber, are left on your vehicle's surface, an easy removal process for your experts. Because scraping the finish is no biggy as long as the mark does not affect the clear coat, just some lacquer thinner or acetone and the mark will be gone as quickly as it got there.

When the scratch penetrates the clear coat of your car's paint, a good way to tell if the mark has only affected the clear coat is if you cannot see any metal underneath. This scratch removal takes a little more elbow grease, but with a polishing compound, we can buff or polish out without damaging the remaining clear coat.

Is there a difference between scratch removers and polishing compounds?

The formulation is the main difference. The performance characteristics of scratch and swirl remover products are similar to polishing compounds. Scratch and Swirl removers are formulated specifically for repairing blemishes.

How do we decide which scratch product to use?

If a dull finish is desired and oxidation is at hand, we will use a rubbing and polishing compound to match the current paint and leave our work unnoticeable. If a scratch or blemish is the target, we will use a scratch repair or scratch and swirl removal process.

How will we remove the scratch?

We will determine which product to use depending on the severity of the scrape. Scratch and Swirl Removal products containing polishing agents formulated for removing light surface abrasions will typically get the job done. These products contain wax and transparent polymers to fill the scratch.

Quick DIY tip for scratch removal

You might be in luck with little scratches on your car that you can fix yourself. A good rule of thumb: run your fingernail across the scratch, and if it runs over the blemish without catching on it, you should be able to polish it out! On the other hand, if your nail catches on scratch, let us at Scottsdale, AZ Detailing take care of it for you.
